On January 15, Shandong Heavy Industry Group (hereinafter referred to as SDHi) officially unveiled its seventh business segment “Electric Power System” at its 2026 Annual Conference, implying a milestone event in the Group’s development history.
This marks the Group’s pivotal move to adapt to global market development, foster new productive forces, and advance strategic transformation and upgrading.
It is also a significant achievement resulting from the Group’s long-term strategic planning. Such a move will lay a solid foundation for SDHi to build sustainable competitiveness and achieve steady, high-quality development in the future.
What is the focus of the Electric Power System Segment?
Centering on data center generator sets and Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC), the Electric Power System Segment of SDHi extends its line of business to the entire industrial chain covering soundproof enclosures, distribution cabinets, power station systems and other products.
It precisely serves key scenarios including data centers, oil fields and mines, as well as water conservancy and power grids. All in all, this business unit is committed to providing global customers with safe, reliable, high-efficiency, low-carbon, smart and flexible one-stop power solutions.
Why does SDHi launch the Electric Power System Segment?
Promising Global Market
The booming of the artificial intelligence industry has spurred the explosive growth of AI data centers, driving an exponential surge in their energy demand. Distributed energy solutions, especially power generation technologies available for rapid deployment, are greeting unprecedented development opportunities.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that global electricity consumption by data centers will rise to approximately 945 TWh by 2030, more than doubling the figure of 2024.
Strong Foundation Due to Farsighted Planning
As early as 2009, Weichai Power strategically reshuffled France’s Moteurs Baudouin, kicking off its official entry into the large-bore engine sector. Meanwhile, it expanded Baudouin’s product line from marine power to hybrid power, gas engines and power generation sectors.
In 2018, Weichai Power made a strategic investment in Ceres Power, a world-leading SOFC supplier in the UK, in order to jointly drive the R&D of SOFC products and the commercialization of relevant application scenarios.
Industry-Leading Core Technologies
In the field of data center power generation, Weichai has rolled out generator sets ranging from 1250 kWe to 5000 kWe, and simultaneously launched the world’s first 5MW high-speed diesel generator set “20M61”, which boasts the world’s highest power density and reaches world-class standards in key indicators such as starting capacity and loading capacity.
In the field of fuel cell power generation, Weichai’s SOFC power generation system has successfully passed EU CE certification. So far, Weichai has completed the launch of the new-generation high-power SOFC power generation products.
Such products feature a maximum power generation efficiency of over 65% and a start-up time of less than 6 hours, placing the Group at the international forefront in overall technological level.
Highly Acclaimed Products
In 2025, the sales of SDHi’s data center power generation equipment saw a year-on-year increase of 259%, with the Group’s Electric Power System business ranking among the world’s top three in the global market. In the data center generator set business, Weichai has established partnerships with leading domestic and overseas Internet clients, telecom operators and data center COLO providers.
In the SOFC business, Weichai has released the world’s first high-power metal-supported SOFC commercial product, with a number of demonstration projects operating successfully. Weichai’s first 100kW SOFC power generation product has been commercialized at Weifang Energy Group, marking a substantial breakthrough in a given stage; the 100kW SOFC power generation product has been successfully delivered to the State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), serving as China’s first SOFC distributed energy supply project in public health service scenarios. Up until now, the demonstration projects have achieved a cumulative operation time of nearly 70,000 hours.
Standing at the tide of the times characterized by industrial transformation and energy transition, the Electric Power System Segment of SDHi is going full speed ahead towards the goals of becoming the Group’s core strategic growth engine and securing a place in the world’s top tier of the industry while taking its farsighted planning of over a decade as the cornerstone, world-leading technologies as the engine, and benchmark market achievements as the foundation.
Looking ahead, the Group will firmly seize the golden opportunity arising from the explosive growth of global energy demand for data centers, in order to further expand its presence in global market, deepen the value of niche scenarios, forge differentiated core competitiveness, and write a new chapter of leapfrogged development.
